Why I love mum

Story culled Mum and Dad were watching TV when Mum said, ‘I’m tired, and it’s getting late. I think I’ll go to bed’ She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day’s lunches. Rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer for dinner the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container and put spoons and bowls on the table. She then put some wet clothes in the dryer, put a load of clothes into the washer, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button She picked up the game pieces left on the table, put the phone back on the charger and put the telephone book into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a rubbish bin and hung up a towel to dry. She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom. She stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for an excursion, and pulled a text book out from hiding under the chair. She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the ...

Good news for black women...

This rare woman suffered and died from cancer, though not breast cancer but black women might as well be in the know and guard against this killer disease. You know, thinking of Prof Akunyili's death kinda gives me the creeps.I can't help wondering why her.Yea,if not her who, right?Oh well, her death shocked me beyond belief and I am still in shock.I felt this way when I lost my dad and then Pastor Bimbo Odukoya.Very sad indeed. A bleak new report suggests that black women are coming face-to-face with the disease more frequently than they used to . Worse, existing research has shown that black women who are diagnosed with breast cancer tend to have bleaker fates than their white counterparts: according to Harvard researchers, even though their rates of the disease are slightly lower, black women were 50 percent more likely to die from the cancer than white women. A more recent study put some context around the statistic, finding that black women were less likely to sur...

The Empowered woman

I think being a woman,I mean a real woman is one of the hardest things ever!. You won't agree with this only if you are not a woman, but if you are a woman, then congratulations to you.You are a mysterious being but then again this congratulation goes to the 'real woman'. The real woman is that person that makes everything difficult seem easy. She is a hard worker, faithful friend and partner,a good manager,a home maker,a lover,a confidant,a mother,a sister,a daughter,a visioneer...Someone,may say,"Yea, ok...I'm not a mother or I'm single and so does that make me not a real woman?Of course not!. Age,class, status, beauty or achievements do not define a real woman, but character does. I can't but wonder at the stories we hear these days about women.I marvel at the rate of evil perpetuated by women in our society.Prostitution is old wives tale but when women are involved in armed robbery, kidnappings, terrorism, gang rape, adultery, fraud to mention a few, then by a...

Memo to all Wives & Girlfriends!

Dear Sweethearts,   The FIFA World Cup is close by, so let us give you a few rules that will help all of us during the months of June and July:   1. The remote control belongs to me for the whole month.   2. Tell all your friends not to give birth or wed on any of the days during the World Cup because we won't go!  3. You support the teams that I support.   4. No talking during the game, wait for half-time or end of the game.   5. Repeats and highlights are as good as the main match, so I'm gonna watch them too.

UK Immigrants get better education and jobs than native brits

A new report by Reuters on UK immigration has dispelled old beliefs that newcomers are mostly low-educated workers. A greater number of foreigners get higher degrees and better jobs than native Britons, figures released by the Office for National Statistics show. Unlike widespread stereotypes, nearly 90 percent of foreign nationals living in the UK speak English very well, the data revealed. 3.6 million foreign nationals aged three and over reported that they  "could speak English well, very well or as their main language." Only 1.7 percent (70,000) of foreign nationals reported that they could not speak English at all. Twenty-one percent of foreign nationals were employed in banking, finance and insurance, compared with 17 percent of UK nationals. Thirty-eight percent of foreign nationals gained qualifications at degree standard or higher, compared with 29 percent of natives, according to the  Office for National Statistics . “UK nationals were more concentrated...

Nigeria,my country

Hi peeps,Ok yea been away from here for a long while.Bad me,I know.I missed you too...:). Anyway,I am back for now.I am particularly worried about the trend in Nigeria now.Tertiary institutions on strike, insecurity, the killings, the public show of shame by legislators supposedly elected to represent the common man, endless list.I know, these things happen all over the world but I am concerned about mine just because it is mine. Below is a poem expressing my feelings and I'm sure many Nigerians too.  Oh how I weep for my country Oh that She may rejoice again A land so blessed, nature is envious A land of plenty, human and nature Oh,how I cringe at the wickedness Oh that the sinnators may repent A land now turned to its shadow A land immersed in systemic chaos Oh how I pray for my country Oh dear lord, that her glory be restored A land of sandy tribes and tongues A land of talents and creativity Oh how I see the future of my country Oh,a home,a treasure,a destination A...

Stella Damasus is not as stupid as you think!

I personally think Stella Damasus rocks, she is such a cutie and reminds me of my older sister. I understand she is remarried to Doris Simeon's ex husband, lives in New York with him and her two children.I remember Doris crying blue murder, accusing Stella of crashing her marriage.I seriously hope Stella doesn't cry like Doris someday. How I wonder why the devil gives heavy blows to people like her in the area of marriage.I wish she didn't have to have so much stress in marriage.Well, life happens,I guess.I saw this picture of her trending on twitter and hit her blog to check things out.Well, here is her blog post below... I have Been trending for the past two days now. Day one was about people wishing me well and praying for me on my birthday. Day two is now filled with gossip, scandals and all sorts, but that is as far as the so called journalists and bloggers are concern...

Margaret Thatcher dies at 87

Britain's Iron lady, the fighting lady is dead. The former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a towering figure in post-war British and world politics, and the first woman to become British prime minister, died Monday morning at the age of 87. Thatcher served from 1979 to 1990 as leader of the Conservative Party. She was called the "Iron Lady" for her personal and political toughness. Thatcher retired from public life after a stroke in 2002 and suffered several strokes after that. She made few public appearances in her final months, missing a reception marking her 85th birthday hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron in October 2010. She also skipped the July 2011 unveiling of a statue honoring her old friend Ronald Reagan in London. In December 2012, she was hospitalized after a procedure to remove a growth in her bladder. I just adored this dear woman. The longest serving British Prime minister of the 20th century,The first British female Prime Minister and th...
