She picked Harvard. She will be heading to the university this fall to study neurobiology or neuroscience.  The high school senior at Wardlaw-Hartridge private school wasn't sure any university would want to admit a 15 year old, so she filled out applications to 14 schools with her grade point average (between a 96 and 97 on a 100-point scale) and her 2,340 SAT score (a perfect 800 on the math section, a 790 in writing and a 750 in reading). 13 schools accepted her, including six of the eight Ivy League schools. Jonathan forced Power Minister to resign

#Prof Nnaji resign or be sacked# President Goodluck Jonathan pushed Nnaji to throw in the towel, following an alleged conflict of interest between his office and the ongoing privatisation of the power sector – the government’s antidote to the epileptic supply that has held Nigeria down, industrially. The alleged abuse of office was in conflict with the Performance Contract Agreement which ministers signed last Wednesday  and the Oath of Office to which they swore at inauguration. Nnaji, a professor of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Robotics, is the first victim of the Agreement.

Woman gives birth to own grandson

The Portland Herald Press reports that the Sirois,a Maine grandmother, 49, acted as a surrogate for Hebert and her husband Brian and delivered their son Madden by C-Section on August 17. The arrangement sounds a little strange, but Hebert, 25, has a heart condition that made it too dangerous for her to get pregnant. Her cardiologist said it would be risky for both her and her baby.  Sirois reached out to fertility clinics around New England. Many rejected her because of her age, but the Reproductive Science Center in Lexington, Massachusetts agreed to impregnate her by in-vitro fertilization (IVF) using Hebert's egg fertilized with Brian's sperm. She had to undergo a number of tests and the process was complicated, but on December 13, Sirois learned she was pregnant. The mom of four says it was her easiest pregnancy. "I felt good and had no complications." Well, well, well, these Oyinbo people eh...I'm simply enthralled.

Senate rejects N5,000 notes

THE National Assembly on Monday said it would stop the Central Bank of Nigeria from introducing its proposed N5, 000 note.  Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Currency and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Bassey Otu, made this known yesterday. He said that the Senate believed that the project required parliamentary approval because it had numerous and fiscal implications for the entire economy. Moreso, The Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO)The Akwa Ibom State branch, has called for the prosecution of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, for the planned introduction of N5,000 note.  Speaking on Monday in Uyo, Clifford Thomas, the State Chairman of CLO said: The N5,000 proposed by the CBN is anti-people. It is a deliberate policy to increase poverty, punish the over 160 million Nigerians so that the rich will become richer and the poor, poorer. It will be much easier to commit electoral fraud, as the money will be handy to transmit a...

Men and Infidelity

My name is John; I’m a retired banker, loving husband, great father; or so I thought! I had a relatively privileged childhood, I grew up as the last of three children, dad was a lawyer,he provided for us and we went on holiday every year. He always gave mum birthday and valentines presents but he had mistresses outside the home. Mum didn’t mind; she said it was normal and a man will always be a man and as long as he provided for the family, it was okay. I grew up with that analogy, as long as I provided for the family, gave my wife birthday and valentines presents, it didn’t matter how many mistresses I had. At the age of 29, I met Linda, a beautiful composed woman, I thought she would make a great wife; I was almost 30 and needed to settle down. So, I popped the question and she said yes! A year after the marriage, we had our first child; Isaac! After this, she became very tired, sluggish and more attentive to the baby than me! Being honest, I had always had women o...

Cynthia RIP

It is unimaginable what her loved ones must be feeling given all the drama surrounding this lovely girl's death.I never knew her but my heart went out to her the day I read about her missing.I remember posting on her wall a prayer asking the lord to keep her safe wherever she maybe.I guess my prayer was late but I believe God knows best.Reading her best friend,Aisha Ella's write up made me cry.I put a call through to Aisha who is also a friend just to confirm the story. It's really sad. Well,I'm thankful that her murderers have been apprehended and I hope the law will serve justice. The detail of Cynthia's journey to her death is mind blowing.I happen to be the last child of my parents and I am quite attached to my folks so I can tell how depressed they all are but I trust that the lord who knows all things will comfort them.Cynthia may not be replaced but surely the future is not bleak. Cynthia Udoka Osokogu RIP.

#Lovedheropeningandthoughttoshare# Everyone has scars. It could be the pain that stays in your heart when someone you truly love and admire does not reciprocate that same passion; it could be the bitterness of growing up in lack that shortens your expectations and opportunities in life; it could be the fear of living in a violent relationship; the regrets of past mistakes; it could also be the evidence of an accident. Scars can make you insecure and feel less than beautiful, especially physical scars – the type that is all out for people to see. But do not let your scars stop you from living. If your heart is heavy of pain – it is time to let it go. The scars that remain from years of un-forgiveness is so damaging that it can live you looking many years older than you really are. If you have regrets from the past, be consoled that you are human and you make mistakes. The most important thing is that you lift yourself from the gaffes you have made and bounce right int...

5,000 Naira Notes to be introduced next year

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced a comprehensive review of the structure of the nation’s currency that would lead to the introduction of a N5,000 bill as the highest naira denomination next year. The N5, N10 and N20 notes  will also be converted to coins as part of the review. The CBN Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, who made the announcement while briefing journalists in Abuja, said the bank would, early next year, introduce the N5,000 note. Sanusi said the new N5,000 note would have the portraits of three women who fought for the country’s independence. They are Mrs. Margaret Ekpo, Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba. In addition, Sanusi said the back of the N5,000 note would have the picture of the National Assembly complex. I don't dig this at all biko...N5,000 ko... culled from The Punch

CAN writes Clinton on Boko Haram

By Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor Dear Madam Secretary: Welcome to Nigeria and thank you for taking the time to visit our beleaguered country at a time when insecurity is at the highest levels it has been in recent memory. Just days before your visit, 17 worshippers were killed in a church service so we do indeed appreciate the effort and courage you displayed in coming. Madam Secretary, I had wanted an audience with you to raise my concern over recent statements credited to the US Government, including at a congressional hearing in which I testified last month. These pronouncements from the State Department have distortions, omissions and in some cases clearly misrepresent facts on the ground in a manner that beclouds the crisis facing Nigeria and is ultimately deleterious to the quest for a peaceful and truthful resolution....Continue.
