Emma Theofelus is a Namibian politician born in the mid 1990's . She was appointed Namibia’s deputy minister of information, communication and technology in March 2020, as part of Hage Geingob's second term cabinet; In her role, she was tasked with assisting in leading public communication on preventive steps against Namibia's COVID19 pandemic.
At the time of the cabinet appointment, Theofelus was age 23 and one of Africa's youngest cabinet ministers; Prior to her political appointment, she completed a law degree at the University of Namibia. She is currently a board member of the National Council of Higher Education.
In 2020, she was judged to be one of 100 most influential African women, the youngest person on this list actually.
As the only young Namibian voice at the recently concluded Southern African Development Community – Civil Society Forum (SADC – CSF), according to her "I felt strongly that I needed to make the voice of Namibian youth heard and to describe the complex issues facing Namibia’s young people and women" . She attended the forum as one of six country representatives from the Southern African Alliance on Youth Employment (SAAYE). To attend meetings such as these, senior members of organisations have priority and it is difficult to source funds to participate. But for Theophelus, her experience at the forum was rich.
One major reason, she is our woman crush is; she was and is still eager to learn from delegates from a variety of civil society organisations about the work they do across the region and to engage in conversations around youth employment.
