The 21st Century Woman...2



The 21st century is the era that gave women voices to fight against gender inequality. It is an era that witnessed the use of reformed laws and systems that before prevented women from utilising their potentials.  It is an era that stressed the seriousness of the topic, "Gender Equality", 


Gender equality is a term with the purpose of empowering women as much as the men and it has the agenda of giving the females as much opportunity as the men. Men dominated paid employment jobs like Medicine, Engineering, Architecture while women were dominating care taking roles like nursing, catering and so on but the 21st century witnessed better representation of women in data driven organisations.

 


From 1960 the year Nigeria got her independence, women participation in politics in the world started increasing although Nigeria was discovered to be one of the countries with the least female participation. As at 2019 Nigeria witnessed (20) women out of (359) members of House of Representatives and (7) out of (109) senators. In the last (25) years in the world the population of women has doubled to one quarter of the total population of people that occupy political offices and they are not just for women enhancement issue but they have been proven to also drive social progress.

 

Women now participate more than before in governance, we have witnessed more female local government chairpersons and research has proven that they have done no Less than the men. Women have experienced a wider inclusion in leadership and they have caused a lot of transformation. Recent law decisions by a renowned international bank has it that no company business should be made public unless it has a woman board member.


Women in this century now have greater participation in unions that fights against sexual exploitation, sexual violence and other unacceptable behavior. This era has bred and given women such as Sakshi Malik, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Serena Williams, Isabel Martinez, Ellen Sirleaf, voices and international recognition. The 21st century woman is now assuming positions that were hitherto reserved for the men folk. 


 The 21st century woman now participates more than before in governance, we have witnessed more female local government chairpersons and research has proven that they have done no less than the men. Women are now represented in development association like Center for innovation on women leadership (CIWL), United Nations Women headed by Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuke. These women groups and much more fight for gender equality and feminism which is believed to be a parameter for curbing poverty in countries

This is Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, a Nigerian Actress and Producer, Script writer and Entrepreneur. She is mostly referred to as Funke Akindele .
