"Number of Nigerian women entering Italy for prostitution this year is unprecedented"-says UN











The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) has said that about 3,600 Nigerian women arrived Italy by boat in the first half of 2016, almost double in the same period last year.More than 80% of these women, it said, were trafficked into prostitution in Italy and across Europe. Traffickers use migrant reception centres as holding pens for women who are then collected and forced into prostitution.


In 2014, about 1,500 Nigerian women arrived by sea. In 2015 this figure had increased to 5,633.The UK Guardian quoted the UN agency as saying:










“What we have seen this year is a crisis, it is absolutely unprecedented and is the most significant increase in the number of Nigerian women arriving in Italy for 10 years,” said Simona Moscarelli, an anti-trafficking expert at the IOM.
She described their condition as worse, adding; “They are really treated like slaves.” They arrive Italy with debts of about £40,000 for their journey from Nigeria, which they are expected to pay back.This is sad and should never happen.The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora matters,Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, please do something fast.It is beyond being a challenge to Nigerian women.It is a shame to Nigeria as a nation!

As each day passes,I see that so many people do not understand what sharing love is all about.Just last night,I saw a man,not a boy.I mean a full fledged man beating up a lady just by the roadside as if she were some common thief.On inquiry,I discovered she was his girlfriend.Did I hear you say,what?!!!.mhnnn...the feeling is mutual,but come to think of it,he may have had a reason which he felt was good enough to beat her up.Someone may say no reason is good enough...chapter closed.
