She also skipped the July 2011 unveiling of a statue honoring her old friend Ronald Reagan in London. In December 2012, she was hospitalized after a procedure to remove a growth in her bladder. FG to turn National Theatre to a hotel

A LAGOS landmark is set for a new status – if the Federal Government succeeds in its plan to find another use for it. The 37-year-old National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos Mainland is to be converted into a five-star hotel. Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation Edem Duke has given a two-week quit notice to Federal Government agencies at the facility. Some of the agencies are National Council for Arts and Culture; Nigeria Gallery of Arts; National Troupe of Nigeria and an unnamed agency. But some stakeholders have rejected the plan, especially the sudden quit notice given to the agencies. They are saying the Federal Executive Council did not approve the proposal and that a transaction advisor was appointed without due process. Other stakeholders also see the plan as an attempt to short-change the Southwest. The theatre was inaugurated on September 30, 1976 by the then Military Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo. It was opened five months before the hostin...

Regina Askia tells it as it is to Stella Korkus

Great read I must confess even though long...Meanwhile this Stella babe is beginning to catch my fancy...Here is her interview with Regina Askia on... Life as a beauty Queen in Nigeria and life as a nurse in America. Which one rocks and why? ''Alright…..this took a minute but I finally got to it. I made a quip on face book sometime back, musing over my life in America and my life back home and unintentionally unleashed a firestorm of opinions and counter opinions . The meat of my musings was, even though I am excited by the many opportunities my life in America brings to me, I’m am sick and tired of being boxed in a class of people and treated with the same expectations and prejudices extended to that class of people. I want to be able to have my achievements over my life span recognized and appreciated. Don’t snort at me and tell me I am having delusions of grandeur...

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced a new Commandant to journalists in the person of Mr Clement Adesuyi from Oyo state command. Mr Abolurin did not give reason for Mr Shem's replacement, but many people believe it is not unconnected to the March 12 interview granted by Mr Shem to Channel Television. The interview became a Nigerian household joke and was referred to,given the opportunity, to lighten up tension. Some Nigerians like Charly boy has lashed out at Nigerians for being so shallow minded but the "My Oga at the top" cliche has been used by music mixing DJs,t shirt designers to mention a few.In any case, like all moments, this too will pass away,I hope...

Pastor Tunde Bakare says Clergy men who live ostentatious lifestyles should be investigated

FOUNDER of the Latter Rain Assembly and convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that for all sections of Nigeria to be sanitised, clergymen and clerics who live ostentatious lifestyles must be investigated and those found guilty should be brought to book. Bakare made the call while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in his reaction to calls in certain quarters that religious organisations in the country should be made to pay taxes. According to Pastor Bakare, asking whether religious organisations, especially churches and mosques, should pay taxes is synonymous with chasing shadows at the expense of the substance.
