African First Ladies Summit Opens in Abuja

The purpose of the summit is to reflect and seek ways to end violence and conflicts in Africa.Dame Patience Jonathan,the chairperson of the African First Ladies Summit stressed that African women cannot continue to sit in their comfort zones and do nothing about the violent situation which has become overwhelming for the African continent as a whole.Dame patience Jonathan welcomed all first ladies and participants present in Abuja for the 7th African First Ladies Summit and in her usual manner she starts her welcome address with "Her Excellency,my dear husband...".

Meanwhile the President of Malawi,Joyce Banda in her keynote address, urged African First ladies to develop mechanisms to support women reach high level parliamentary positions.She noted that politics in Africa is not cheap,especially for women,"It is an expensive undertaking,women need money not training".She said.
