Chieftain of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i, has accused the Federal Government of complicity in the spate of bombings that have rocked some parts of the country, alleging that it was part of the diversionary tactics of the present administration whenever certain issues were at stake.
However, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said the allegation was a figment of el-Rufai’s imagination which he said was callous and unreasonable.
Speaking on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) monitored in Kaduna weekend, el-Rufai’i said it was sad that the security situation in Nigeria had worsened and even the government was allegedly amassing bombs in the country.
“We have to start accusing the government because anytime we are in this problem, like when the Faruk committee in the House came out with its report on the fuel subsidy scam, at that time, they started coming out with bombs all over.
In a swift reaction, Gulak dismissed the allegation, saying they were outbursts from the opposition that could not hold water.
“Thanks be to Allah. It is now one year that President Goodluck Jonathan was elected and sworn in as president, and people are saying that he did nothing; I think perhaps it is either their brain is blocked or they are blind. This is because the various things this government has done, and is still doing, are there to be seen.”
“It is the figment of his imagination; it is not true. This is because they are so extreme in their opposition. Mallam el-Rufa’i had just made remarks that are very surprising; I m really baffled. He is one of the leaders in this country and in the North, and for him to start accusing the government of responsiblility for bombing because of the subsidy probe that was done in the National is not fair.
