It's a weird world

After 30 minutes jogging last night,I was truly exhausted.Dripping with sweat,I ran a cold bath and settled to  retire for the day even though it was just 8pm..No sooner had my head touched my pillow than a friend called my mobile.I was just about to announce to him that I had gone to bed but the excitement in his voice cut me short.Curiosity got the better of me,so I waited  for him to say what he had to say.He had called earlier and I agreed to hang out with him next day but calling again and repeating how he needed to see me by all means and share his joy kinda disarmed my strong will."Honestly,I won't waste your time,I know you have to be at work in the morning",he said.Okay, I will buy you chapman!,he continued.I let off a stifled laugh.Chei...how chapman can now buy me.Kai,my long throat for chapman after a long push got me out of bed finally.
Anyway,It was a fine cruise, you know it's very easy to dwell on the merriment of the moment in this age where enjoyment is trendy.Well,he has just won a contract he has been pursuing for months, two of his friends were sworn into the house of Representatives and he just got a visa for a holiday trip abroad, all expenses paid!.Na wao oo.Only you!.This life eh,to explain am dey tire person at times. Some people dey wey dey ask Baba God for one of these better things, dem never get am,dem still dey hope but this person just carry all these one join body thesame day.Anyway, the truth is he has been praying o,no be today. So,really, the news was worth celebrating. We drove to Ketchup,a very nice chill out place in the heart of the capital city.Though it was too noisy and crowded for me,the ambience was also welcoming.Sitting amongst all kinds of people but obviously "correct" people like we will say in Nigeria,I couldn't help but notice a couple cuddling just opposite our table. The man was obviously drunk and the lady was in very high spirits. His hands like  painting brushes was moving all over his canvass(her body).I couldn't help but imagine the outcome of his painting(very ugly painting)*wink*,because his brushes  were all over the canvass. She didn't seem to mind anyway and they were undoubtedly oblivous of their environment. They didn't even turn their heads at our giggles which was directed at them. The guy was wearing a grey caftan and the lady was wearing this gown which looked liked what you would wear to church on Sunday.Moreso,he struck me as a married man who was just frolicking with a lady he is totally in lust with. She struck me as a lady who should have been another man's wife but since there was no Mr Right,,would take advantage of every opportunity nature throws her way as long as it is coated with money.
Well,my friend and I ordered for a glass of chapman each and got some meatballs to go with it,talked generally, enjoyed the DJ's music selection and decided to head home.It was just too noisy for me,the cigarretes smoke and smell of alcohol was making me uncomfortable, moreso, the clock was almost chiming 10pm.I have to be at work as early as 7am the next day.The naughty part of me couldn't resist bidding the lovebirds goodbye in such a way that I would be noticed and my countenace read too,but the lady simply showed me she was even naughtier as she blew us a kiss, rolling her eyes seductively and causing the painting brushes to grab the canvass and paint drunkenly.Though I giggled loudly, inwards I was kinda appalled, thinking, get a room if you MUST nah, haba!
Anyway,we hit the road and I became even more perplexed.Anyway,I hate night outings, clearly for a long time I have not hung out at nights at all. So,it was too much  for me to take in when I saw pretty girls dotting every street we turned into.Of course,it's not new as in na today? You see, a lot of thoughts dashed through my mind in seconds. They are first of all humans, then women like me.They could be anybody's sister,daughter,cousin,niece,aunty,sister-inlaw,friend,widow,ex-wife,whatever!.Here they are depending on God knows who to buy their body for the night for some pitiable amount of money. Is it their greed or the poverty?is their parents or society?is it exposure or ignorance?is it ennui or hype?are they  nymphos or just lonely? What exactly leaves one with the option of being a prostitute..As my mind battled with these thoughts,I didn't notice that we had turned onto the highway until my eyes caught a little commotion about three poles in front of us.My friend noticed it too and slowed down.As we approached,I noticed a police van,a hummer jeep in the middle of the road,a motorbike, and a little gathering of people. My eyes drifted to the ground and I saw what appeared like logs of wood at first but the red and white colour didn't make sense. So,as we drove closer,I realized they were two human bodies lying lifeless on the road.My sadness deepened.
Here I am celebrating with a friend for dreams come true, met lovers  without a care in the world, saw prostitues patiently waiting to be used by strangers for money and finally dead bodies sprawled on the road.Ten minutes before we got there, they were alive with plans for tomorrow and they were cruising on their bike to wherever but now gone forever. It's a weird world.Happy moments, sorrowful moments.Guess that's what makes it what it is;weird world.Be happy when you can because surely,as much as you and I may want to wish it away, there are also times of sorrow!.However,I'd rather hand over every momemt of this weird world to its creator!.Chikena!

You couldn't have said it better. This world is very strange indeed...I mean, look at the string of events...And they all happened on the same day...And after those people passed on, life continued...Life is so transient. May God help us all fulfill the number of our days and fulfill God's plan for our lives in the time that we have. Amen.
@Greg,thanks for stopping by...@Ennie,love it that u agree with me and @ The Relentless Builder...I love the word, transient and a BIG AMEN.Joining your blog, join mine.

The Empowered woman

I think being a woman,I mean a real woman is one of the hardest things ever!. You won't agree with this only if you are not a woman, but if you are a woman, then congratulations to you.You are a mysterious being but then again this congratulation goes to the 'real woman'. The real woman is that person that makes everything difficult seem easy. She is a hard worker, faithful friend and partner,a good manager,a home maker,a lover,a confidant,a mother,a sister,a daughter,a visioneer...Someone,may say,"Yea, ok...I'm not a mother or I'm single and so does that make me not a real woman?Of course not!. Age,class, status, beauty or achievements do not define a real woman, but character does. I can't but wonder at the stories we hear these days about women.I marvel at the rate of evil perpetuated by women in our society.Prostitution is old wives tale but when women are involved in armed robbery, kidnappings, terrorism, gang rape, adultery, fraud to mention a few, then by a...

The Career Woman

I stumbled upon this beautiful article on IFP while researching on other stuff and thought to share it. It's a 4 minutes read. I totally agree with it. Gender equality seems to be the one issue that isn't going away. Many of us like to believe sexism is something that only plagued the workplaces of yesteryear, but unfortunately it still exists. Don't believe us? Well, in 2016 just 57% of the world's  working-age women  were in employment, compared to 70% of their male counterparts. And even the females who were in work were struggling to catch up with the men. Women with  full-time jobs  still earn only about 77% of their male counterparts' earnings. Of course, the issue is complex and many expect that because most countries have made it illegal to pay women less than men, that gender inequality has fixed itself. However, problems surrounding  unconscious bias , parental leave, and outdated stereotypes about gender roles persist in the workplace. But what are th...

Domestic Voilence in Nigeria heightens in the face of economic hardship-majority of victims are women!

A recent Public Opinion poll conducted by NOIPolls Limited in partnership with Project Alert on domestic violence has revealed an increasing prevalence of domestic violence across Nigeria in recent times as reported by about 8 in 10 (78 percent) respondents. This prevalence is highest in the South-West geo-political zone (86 percent) and lowest in the South-South zone (70 percent). More findings revealed that 54 percent of Nigerians have suffered a form of domestic violence or know someone that has experienced domestic violence in their homes with majority of the victims being women as stated by 75 percent of respondents. Just this week, a man in Aba Abia state allegedly beat his wife into coma for lying to him that she has not been paid her salary after commissioner for finance Obinna Oriaku mis-informed the Abia public on radio that civil servants salary arrears have been paid.
